Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States. More than two million adults age 65 and older have asthma, and in 2004 more than one million older adults suffered an asthma episode. This fact sheet discusses hazards that can trigger COPD and asthma and makes suggestions for reducing exposure to triggering factors.
