This report examines how the age structure of the U.S. population is expected to change over the coming decades and focuses on the older population in terms of age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin. The U.S. population is projected to grow older over the next several decades and the racial and ethnic composition of the older population is also expected to change. The projected growth of the older population in the United States will present challenges to policy makers and programs, such as Social Security and Medicare.
