Oral Health America’s oral health education curriculum, Tooth Wisdom®: Get Smart About Your Mouth (TWGSAYM), is one of the Wisdom Tooth Project’s strategies dedicated to improving the oral health of older adults.
TWGSAYM was designed specifically for community-dwelling older adults and to empower participants with knowledge and a sense of self-efficacy to care for their oral health. The workshop covers the basics of daily oral care and takes a “symptoms-first” approach with helping older adults understand what to do when they experience certain health problems that hinder their ability to complete daily oral hygiene.
The curriculum has been delivered by trained registered dental hygienists in locations where older adults naturally congregate, i.e., senior center, church, library, meal sites, independent living sites, etc.
This webinar will cover the inception of the curriculum, it’s 4 years of pilot implementation, as well as its newest and future opportunities of expansion and dissemination.
1. Understand the development of Oral Health America’s oral health education curriculum for seniors, Tooth Wisdom: Get Smart About Your Mouth
2. Review the developed partnerships, implementation process, and impact of the curriculum over the 4 pilot years
3. Become familiar with the new and future opportunities to expand and disseminate TWGSAYM to professionals, in turn, educating a greater number of seniors
